Pickman Editorial offers editing and consulting services to museums, galleries, and cultural organizations. Services include managing the full production and distribution of exhibition catalogues and art books; editing and producing gallery didactics, including wall texts, brochures, and educational materials; creating institution- and project-specific editorial style guides; and writing and editing press releases, fundraising materials, email campaigns, and other print and digital communications.
Kara Pickman, Editorial Director
Kara Pickman has twenty years of experience as a museum and art book editor, working closely and extensively with some of the highest-profile organizations across the country, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Pérez Art Museum Miami, and the Smithsonian Libraries, among many others. Since founding Pickman Editorial in 2012 she has become an expert in the nuances of museum and gallery communications; managed the editorial production for six editions of the international design fair Design Miami/ and Design Miami/ Basel; and edited more than 75 art books and exhibition catalogues, including Beatriz González: A Retrospective (Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Pérez Art Museum Miami), selected as a New York Times Top Art Book of 2019.
Kara manages Pickman Editorial’s small team of editors and offers senior-level editorial services to select clients directly. Prior to founding Pickman Editorial she served in staff editor positions at the Guggenheim Museum, New York; Welcome Books, New York (now a division of Rizzoli International Publications); and Archipelago Books, Brooklyn.
Cherry Pickman, Senior Editor
Cherry Pickman is a writer and editor with more than fifteen years of experience editing museum communications, exhibition didactics, exhibition catalogues, and style guides for museums nationwide. She regularly produces press releases and exhibition materials for art galleries and other cultural institutions. Her diverse experience extends to copyediting genre fiction, cookbooks, sports writing, and travel and leisure communications and marketing materials. A graduate of Columbia University’s MFA poetry program, she has published her work in esteemed publications such as the American Poetry Journal and Boston Review; she is the author of Theory of Tides, winner of the Poetry Society of America’s Chapbook Fellowship.
